Experienced and caring dental surgeon with over 24 years of experience in clinical practice and academia. Committed to advancing oral health equity through community outreach, patient education, and voluntary dental services across various regions of Rwanda. Widely recognized for leading dental missions in underserved areas—Venezuela (2007–2011), Uganda (2014–2019), and Rwanda (2019 to present)—and for promoting ethical practice and international collaboration in dentistry. Also strongly committed to improving dental education in East Africa, having funded the Dental School of Kampala International University, which was fully accredited and recognized by the East African Regional Board in 2019. Played a key role in the development of dental education in Rwanda, contributing to its full accreditation and recognition by the East African Council in 2022. Community outreach to underserved populations has always been one of the core pillars of my agenda, with active involvement in numerous initiatives. These include organizing, collaborating with, and participating in programs led by NGOs such as Operation Smile (since 2023), Miracle Corners Rwanda (part of Miracle Corners of the World), SOS Children’s Villages, Dental Health Without Borders, and other partners on an annual basis. Actively engaged in academic and clinical partnerships aimed at strengthening dental education and service delivery in East Africa. Since 2023, have worked closely with Operation Smile NGO to provide free surgical and dental care to children with cleft conditions in Rwanda, while also contributing to the training of local professionals to ensure long-term impact. Participated in the collaborative program between the University of Maryland and the University of Rwanda School of Dentistry, focused on curriculum development, faculty training, and student mentorship. These joint initiatives reflect a strong commitment to capacity building and sustainable advancement of oral health in the region. Actively contributed to the creation of the Oral Health Proposal for Rwanda, a collaborative effort involving Operation Smile Rwanda, the University of Maryland Baltimore, and the University of Rwanda. This proposal brings together dedicated partners working to strengthen Rwanda’s surgical and oral health systems through the commitment, compassion, and leadership of both local and international experts.
